September Newsletter is up

The September 2018 newsletter has been uploaded on the newsletters page.

Most important of course is that the annual FGMC Gem, Mineral, Jewelry, and Fossil show is right up on us:  Sept 7-9.

2018 Show Flyer and Ticket are up

The show flyer for the 2018 show has been uploaded to the annual show page.  In addition there is a free adult ticket that can be downloaded/printed to be used for an adult admission.   (Children through grade 12 are always free with an accompanying adult.)

August Newsletter Is Up

Remember – there is no public program meeting in August or September.  The August meeting is replaced by the annual club picnic, and the September meeting is replaced by the annual Gem, Mineral, Jewelry and Fossil Show.

Joe Gutierrez

FGMC lost another long-term key member as Joe Gutierrez passed away on March 6 at the age of 91.  Joe was also a Vulcan geologist for many years and served as the liaison between Vulcan and the club. Joe was also instrumental in getting the geology museum established at Vulcan Quarry and let many school classes, scouts, and other youth groups through the facility. The museum was named for him and his efforts in community relations and education.

Joe’s health has limited his attendance for the last couple of years, but when he could make it he was always smiling and willing to teach anyone with any interest about rocks.

He will be greatly missed.
